The gently crisp flesh is between fine and coarse, and is juicy. Freedom delivers mild floral notes with a mild cider aroma and is well balanced between sweet and tart.

To quote 'Adam Apples', "The name of this apple promises freedom, in this case, to the grower, and from the risk of crop-ruining disease and the need for fungicides and bactericides."

This apple was specifically bred by Cornell University to be disease resistant and they did an excellent job on that mark. It was first bred in 1958 but they waited for two massive waves of disease to pass through the area before declaring it disease resistant and applying for their patent in 1983.

Height:                              12-15’

Fruit ripening time:      Late September

Fruit flavour:

Similar to McIntosh in flavour with sweet, subacidic, sprightly flavour... Although if you are a real apple fan you may find floral notes, caramel, and a little spice, reasonably well balanced between sweet and tart.

Why We Grow It:

This is one of the most disease-resistant apple varieties that we have found. It is excellent for no-spray home orchards. It is also a great replacement for Mcintosh apples without the disease issues.
